Palm oil giant Socapalm has finally handed over three sacred sites on 3 hectares of land but this is far short of the 30 hectares that the Mbonjo community is demanding.
Le 13 avril 2023, les populations du village Apouh à Ngog situé dans l’arrondissement d’Edéa 1er, département de la Sanaga-Maritime, région du Littoral, ont paralysé les activités de production à l’usine de la Société camerounaise de palmeraies (Socapalm) d’Edéa.
Sur le manque d’espaces vitaux, les populations de la Sanaga Maritime reprochent à l’exploitant, de s’être accaparé des aires propices à leurs activités de survie quotidienne, l’agriculture de subsistance et les aires pastorales notamment.
Le plaidoyer des communautés soutenues par des organisations de la société civile a contraint l’entreprise à ne céder que trois sites sur les cinq escomptés, pour une superficie totale d’environ trois hectares, alors que les communautés en espéraient 30 hectares.
The UN counted 355 SLAPPs from the business community between 2015 and 2022. Individuals and organisations that expose human rights violations, abuses in mining, agriculture and forestry and on palm oil plantations are most often affected.

Palm oil producer Socfin systematically excludes parts of their plantations from certification. This way, they do receive the RSPO certificate, while large parts of their plantations do not meet the environmental and social requirements, analysis by Milieudefensie shows.
