US private equity firm Paine & Partners expanded its farm and agribusiness holdings on Wednesday with the acquisition of a leading European Union agricultural producer, Spearhead International Ltd, for an undisclosed amount.

The three parties expressed their intention to strengthen the co-operation in the field of reshaping and draining agricultural land belonging to Rabo Farm in the Zulawy delta in the North of Poland, close to Gdansk.
On 29th May, farmers in the Polish Region of West Pomerania organised a protest against land grabbing.

Farmland prices are firming across much of Central and Eastern Europe, as interest from institutional investors -- mainly pension funds -- begins to translate into transactions on the ground.
