The third full meeting of the national committee of All Nepal Peasants' Federation (ANPF) close to the CPN-UML has protested the government's preparation in bringing in unchecked foreign investment in agriculture.

The two-day meeting that concluded on December 8 under the chairmanship of ANPF Chairman and UML Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam objected to the draft prepared by the Ministry of Industry to formulate Foreign Direct Investment.

"The provision for foreigners to purchase land in the country and open industry and for the government to provide subside for this purpose will affect agriculture sector in the long run," said a statement released after the meeting.

"The ANPF will take a step in preventing the law from passing from Legislature-Parliament," the press release added.

The meeting also decided to show solidarity with the protest against the constitution amendment proposal and involve actively in 'the four-month campaign for constitution enforcement' launched by the UML.
