Cross River State has become one of Nigeria’s premier agricultural investment destinations, crowding out smallholder production systems and creating new avenues for rent capture by elites.
The state government has recently acquired land in Shongai, Benin Republic as part of effort to increase arable farmlands beyond the state’s boundaries for food production.

The Rockefeller Foundation says the 10,000 ha rice farm and outgrower scheme that Olam is constructing in Nigeria is a win-win land project.
Sifca Group, which owns Africa’s biggest palm-oil refinery located in Ivory Coast, said it plans to spend $417 million in the next five years on plantations and factories in Ghana, Nigeria and Liberia.
Miami-based company's investment deal includes the acquisition of farmland and establishment of private farms. Similar deal signed the previous week with Ghana.

A private initiative, Stallion Group, has indicated its readiness to invest in rice production in Edo State, just as the state government assured it of a conducive environment.
"We have also approved the allocation of 20, 000 hectares of land to a Chinese company for rice production," says state governor, Alhaji Garba Umar.
