ROPPA, Actionaid, Oxfam and EAFF have urged Nigerian and other African leaders to guarantee transparency in the management of large-scale land transactions and freeze acquisitions which do not conform to rules, regulations and the framework of the land declaration of the African Heads of States and Government of 2009.
It is only after land issues have been resolved at community level that the role and significance of community-investor partnership which does not require transfer of land rights is possible, says the East African Farmers Federation
The EAFF President was a discussant during the World Bank Conference on Land and Poverty which took place in Washington DC USA 18th to 20th April 2011. The following were his focal points

"Ceux qui arrivent à accéder à ces terres ont le sentiment qu'il existe des terres que nous sommes incapables de cultiver nous-mêmes; mais la situation est différente," a déclaré Philippe Kiriro, président de la Fédération des fermiers d’Afrique de l’est.
The Eastern Africa Farmers Federation (EAFF) says these land deals exclude farmers and threaten their livelihoods.

It has now emerged that the land in question is part of the fertile Tana River delta in Coast Province, the same stretch where plans by Mumias Sugar Company to build a sugar factory have raised objections from pastoralists claiming that their animals will lack pasture and the environment will be destroyed.
