Westchester Group appoints Martin Davies to lead farmland investing programme in Europe

Westchester Group Investment Management, a TIAA-CREF majority-owned global agricultural asset manager, has appointed Martin Davies as executive vice president and chief executive officer of Westchester Group of Europe (WGE).

Davies will report to Randall Pope, president and chief executive officer of Westchester, and will be based in the UK.

Davies will be responsible for managing Westchester’s platform in Europe, as well as building the firm’s direct farmland investment business in Europe.

Pope says: “Martin brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of managing agricultural investments. We are delighted to welcome him to our team and are confident that he will contribute to the success of Westchester in Europe and around the world.”

“Broadening our European farmland capabilities is consistent with our strategy of portfolio diversification across the major grain exporting regions globally. Martin’s appointment underscores TIAA-CREF’s and Westchester’s commitment to the region,” says Jose Minaya, senior managing director and head of private markets asset management, TIAA-CREF. “We are excited to see Westchester expand and look forward to building on our success for years to come.”

Davies joins Westchester from Insight Investment, where he served as head of farmland investments for the past five years. During his tenure at Insight Investment, a subsidiary of BNY Mellon, Davies was responsible for managing the investment of USD230 million of institutional capital in agricultural assets located in Chile, New Zealand, Australia and Central and Eastern Europe.

Prior to Insight Investment, Davies was operations director for Proventus International, an agriculture investment management firm focused on Eastern Europe. Davies also previously held senior consulting and operations management positions at Strutt & Parker and Cooperative Group Farms.
