Staff Report

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), in a unanimously adopted resolution on Tuesday, demanded the government immediately withdraw leasing of agricultural land to other countries.

The resolution was moved by a senior bar member, Barrister Zafarullah Khan. The house condemned the alleged allotment of land to the United States and houses provided to a US security agency, Blackwater, in Islamabad. The bar termed it an incursion of another ‘East India Company’ into the country. The resolution feared the land would be used to construct an airbase and would house more than 5,000 US civilians and marines. The house termed the sale of 18 acres of land within the diplomatic enclave and renting out 200 houses to the US embassy in Islamabad a conspiracy. The bar also expressed concern over the intended sale or lease of 700,000 acres of agricultural land to Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar.
