Kenya and Qatar continue to cement a bond defined by friendship, mutual respect, and a shared vision for peace, prosperity, and global cooperation. This enduring partnership has grown steadily over the years, driven by a common dedication to peace-building, strategic investment, and inclusive development.
Today, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Hon Musalia W Mudavadi, accompanied H.E. President William Samoei Ruto for a high-level bilateral engagement with the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The two Heads of State reaffirmed the strong and expanding ties between the two nations, underscoring their commitment to deepening collaboration for the benefit of their citizens.
President Ruto applauded Qatar’s pivotal role in promoting peace across East Africa and the Great Lakes region, recognising Doha’s firm diplomatic stewardship during moments of regional challenge. In turn, His Highness commended Kenya’s unwavering leadership on continental and global peace and stability efforts. Both leaders expressed deep concern over the escalating situation in Sudan and emphasized the urgent need for coordinated international action to safeguard innocent lives and restore stability.
The discussions highlighted expanding areas of cooperation, including aviation and infrastructure. President Ruto acknowledged the newly established partnership between Kenya Airways and Qatar Airways, terming it a milestone in strengthening Kenya’s aviation sector. He further extended an invitation to Qatar’s public and private sectors to invest in Kenya’s infrastructure transformation agenda, including the modernization of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Agriculture also took center stage, with President Ruto offering 2.5 million acres for large-scale irrigation farming, an opportunity to bolster food security and enhance export capacity for both nations.
In a significant show of commitment, His Highness the Emir appointed a high-level delegation led by Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Qatar Investment Authority to visit Nairobi and pursue priority investment opportunities. In response, President Ruto appointed H.E. Musalia Mudavadi to lead Kenya’s team in advancing these strategic engagements, fostering robust investment partnerships, and fast-tracking frameworks for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
With this renewed momentum, Kenya and Qatar are poised to scale new heights, advancing peace, unlocking investment, and charting a shared path toward sustainable growth and global leadership.
