Romania's DN Agrar to double milk production capacity by 2030

Romanian agricultural group DN Agrar [BSE:DN] said on Monday that it plans to expand its annual milk production capacity to 150 million litres across six farms by 2030, doubling its estimated 2025 milk output.

The objective is part of DN Agrar's 2025–2030 development strategy, the company said in a press release.

"Our goal is to become a regional leader in premium dairy and food production by developing industrial clusters that combine dairy farming, vegetable production, biogas and composting facilities, vertical wheatgrass farms, and greenhouse horticulture," DN AGRAR Group board chairman Jan Gijsbertus de Boer said.

"With five major projects kicking off in 2026 and a biogas facility set to launch in 2027, we are positioned to double EBITDA by 2030," he added.

As part of this development strategy, the company plans to begin next year the construction of a new 5,000-head cattle facility with a projected daily milk output of 150,000 litres. The farm will also produce 25% of the animal feed onsite, with full operations expected by 2029. DN Agrar also intends to develop four wheatgrass vertical farms that will generate over 100 tonnes of wheatgrass per day, potentially offsetting 25% of current feed input.

Another key project in the strategy includes the development of five new composting units with an expected annual output exceeding 40,000 tonnes of organic fertiliser by the end of 2030. In November, DN Agrar started the operation of a compost factory at its Apold farm in the western commune of Garbova, Alba county.

In October, DN Agrar and BSOG Energy, a unit of Romania-based Black Sea Oil & Gas, signed an agreement for the development of a 15 MW biomethane production plant. According to the current statement, this project is expected to generate annual revenues of 3.5 - 4 million euro starting in 2027 and contribute to a 90% reduction in carbon emissions.

DN Agrar also has other projects under analysis, including a second farm in the western village of Straja, Alba county, and greenhouse vegetable cultivation, on which the company is expected to make the final investment decisions in 2027.

"Projects’ financing will be secured through a blend of bank loans, EU funding programmes, capital increase, and internal capital," the press release reads.

DN Agrar reported a consolidated net profit of 14.1 million lei ($3.2 million/2.8 million euro) for the first three months of 2025, 78% higher year-on-year.

DN Agrar Group, established in 2008, comprises eleven companies. Its portfolio includes over 16,000 cows and more than 7,000 ha of cultivated land in the counties of Alba, Sibiu, and Hunedoara. DN Agrar's goal is to reach 10,000 ha of cultivated land through acquisition of farms.

DN Agrar Group's shares traded 2.81% higher at 1.645 lei as at 1046 CET on Monday on the Bucharest bourse.
