by Radomir Ralev

UAE-based Al Dahra Agricultural Company plans to invest 80 million euro ($87.3 million) in a project for the installation of a land irrigation system in Serbia in the next four years to increase yields, it said on Thursday.

The company will make investments worth 25 million euro in Serbia this year, including 9 million euro in the modernisation of farming machinery in Serbia, the company said in an e-mailed statement.

"Al Dahra is the leading agricultural company in the region, which significantly contributes to the growth of the agricultural industry in Serbia and to the overall economic development, and I am convinced that with additional investments and more efficient business, we will contribute to our country taking the place it deserves in Europe," Al Dahra Serbia general manager Dusan Radicevic said.

The company recorded a wheat yield of 8.2 tonnes per hectare, as well as 4.4 tonnes per hectare of oilseed rape in 2021.

It intends to hire 50 employees this year, it added.

In October 2018, Serbia signed a contract for the sale of agricultural company Poljoprivredna Korporacija Beograd (PKB) to Al Dahra. The UAE-based company won a tender for the acquisition of PKB in September 2018, after placing a 105.05 million euro cash offer for the assets of the company.
