This RIRDC report presents the results of the study undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES). It reviews the historical significance of foreign investment in Australian agriculture, and to the Australian economy. It incorporates the survey results provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and presents case studies of foreign investment in farmland and agribusiness. It also examines the driving factors behind foreign investment in Australian agriculture and describes processes by which foreign investment in farmland is monitored and regulated in Australia and other selected countries.
