A new cross-border investigation found that subsidiaries controlled by the Al Nahyans collected over €71 million (£61 million) in just six years for farmland it controls in Romania, Italy and Spain.
The entire portfolio, including 18,250 megalitres of water entitlements, would be of interest to pension and sovereign wealth funds from Europe, the Middle East or North America, said sources with knowledge of the sale who were not authorised to speak publicly.
Overseas farmland investment surged by 34 per cent last year, with 46 deals worth $2.5bn approved in just three months.
