Friends of the Earth Africa member groups visit the Joegbahn clan community in Liberia, which is facing threats from the Equatorial Oil Palm (EPO) Company to cede their remaining land to allow the company to expand its plantations.
“We want our land back,” said Bindu Kannea, a mother and a farmer who lives in Grand Cape Mount County. In Liberia community resistance to palm oil expansion is about protecting their last remaining pieces of land.
Liberia's Jogbahn Clan is at the forefront of efforts to resist the grab of land and forests for palm oil plantations. But the country's President says they are only 'harrassing and extorting' international investors.
