The company behind the Mennonite project, Terra Invest Suriname & Guyana, is looking to obtain 30,000 hectares for approximately 1,000 Mennonite families, but could go as high as 90,000 hectares.
The company acquired 25,000 acres of land in the Tacama Savannah, within the Ebini area, located up the Upper Berbice River in Region 10.
Millets acquired through a partnership with India will be produced at Tacama Landing along the Berbice River as the country strives to achieve its ambitious food security goal.
Work is progressing on the joint venture between Demerara Distillers Limited and the LR Group of Israel, with land clearing and preparation of the first 100 acres currently in progress.
Guyana President Mohamed Irfaan Ali offered India 200 acres of land for exclusive cultivation and production of millets in honour of the United Nations declaring the year 2023 as the International Year of Millet
Tacama Gold, a company owned by Guyanase and Brazilian businessmen, requested 85,000 acres of land but was given 27,000, so that the venture could be assessed before additional land was given.

The multi-million dollar project would require approximately 600 acres of land, create dozens of jobs and see the importation of 500 pregnant heifers to supply the milk production.
