Legislation and practices aiming to safeguard customary land rights are largely failing to give real decision-making authority to communities affected by large-scale land acquisitions in sub-Saharan Africa, says a recent report by the Center for International Forestry Research.
China will increasingly look to Africa over the next decade as the world's most populous nation seeks to ensure it has sufficient food supplies, according to a study published Wednesday.
The International Peasant Conference taking place in Mali against land grabbing aims to build a concrete action plan to stop this phenomenon, said Thomas Ouana, from the National Union of Mozambican Peasant Farmers (UNAC) in an interview with Real World Radio.
