Socfin Agricultural Company welcomes new leadership after over a decade

Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Socfin Agricultural Company (SAC) bids farewell to its outgoing General Manager, Mr. Philip Tonks, after more than 11 years of dedicated service. In a memo to the management and staff of Socfin Agricultural Company Sierra Leone, Mr. Tonks announced that he will step down as General Manager effective Sunday, December 31, 2023.

 

The reins of leadership will be handed over to Pascal Desmedt, who will assume the role of the new General Manager of SAC.

 

In his brief statement, Mr. Tonks expressed gratitude to the entire SAC team for their collective efforts in building the company since his arrival in September 2012. He stated, “It is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to SAC Sierra Leone, which has been my home for over 11 years. I am proud to have been part of building this wonderful plantation.”

 

Mr. Tonks highlighted SAC’s impressive achievement of holding the group record for two consecutive plantings of 4,000 hectares per year in 2013 and 2014, emphasizing the significant strides the company has made during his tenure.

 

Reflecting on the success, he urged everyone to continue prioritizing the company’s interests and maintaining a committed work ethic to ensure SAC’s sustained success for generations to come.

 

“I wish all the very best to the shareholders, the company, the employees, the Chiefdom, our customers, stakeholders, and Sierra Leone in the years to come. May the company that many of us built remain resilient and strong, serving as the livelihood of so many people,” Mr. Tonks remarked.

 

As the outgoing General Manager, he called on everyone to extend their efforts in working collaboratively with the new GM, Pascal Desmedt, to ensure the continued success of this esteemed company. The transition marks a new chapter for SAC, and the company looks forward to further growth and accomplishments under the guidance of its new leadership.
