Qatari businessmen to visit Ukraine in May to explore investment opportunities

A high-level delegation of Qatari businessmen will visit Ukraine in May this year to explore investment opportunities in the country, according to Ali Abdulatif al-Misnad, deputy chairman, International Chamber of Commerce Qatar (ICCQ) and board member, Qatar Chamber (QC).

Al-Misnad was speaking at a meeting held in connection with the visit of a delegation of Ukrainian businessmen headed by Volodymyr Schelkunov, chairman, International Chamber of Commerce (Ukraine) at the QC headquarters. Ukraine Ambassador Yevhen Mykytenko was also present.

Al-Misnad said the meeting was a “good opportunity” for deliberations between the two parties.

He said such meetings could be developed as “distinguished commercial relationship” between the business communities of the two countries to explore areas of mutual interests.

“The Qatari private sector has managed to enter various world markets and take part in a number of projects that add value to the host countries. This has also helped improve the performance of the Qatari private sector,” he pointed out.

Al-Misnad urged the Qatari business community “to seriously explore” investment opportunities in Ukraine, particularly in areas such as tourism and food and agriculture sector.

Also, he called upon the Ukrainian business community to take advantage of the opportunities in Qatar and to establish joint businesses with their Qatari counterparts in various fields.

Schelkunov said he hoped the meeting would result in “real and active partnerships,” especially in the marketing of agricultural products, farmland, fertilisers, and machinery and spare parts used in the oil and gas industry.

Schelkunov said there are a number of “pending agreements” between the two countries aimed to build grain silos and lease of agriculture land in Ukraine to Qatari investors, in addition to investments in the development of tourist resorts.

He said Ukraine had “good experience” in implementing infrastructure projects for the European Football Championship in 2012 and was keen to take part in Qatari projects for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Mykytenko hoped the “positive relationship” between Qatar Chamber and the Ukraine Embassy in Doha would further bolster the relationship between the two countries.
