APA-Port Louis (Mauritius) The Mauritius government is setting up a regional development agency to act facilitate Mauritian investors in Mozambique.

Sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said here on Monday that the main aim of the agency is to promote land cultivation in Mozambique.

The setting up of the agency follows the agreement signed between Mauritius and Mozambique in which Mozambique will lease land to Mauritian investors for the cultivation of maize and other cereals and for non-agricultural projects.

The agency will help Mauritians to acquire agricultural land for projects related to food security and non-agricultural land for the setting up of development zones.

Mauritian entrepreneurs are already active in agricultural projects in Mozambique but their legal status has not been clearly defined, the courses said.

The agency will take care of the legal aspects of the land leases, ensure compliance with agreements reached by all stakeholders taking into account the business ethics, laws and socio-cultural values of Mozambique.
