PHC/KKM2, a Breath of Relief for Workers and Local Communities: the Case of the Lokutu Area, Tshopo Province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo

This report focuses on the key to success for any agro-industrial investor who wants to work over a long time period without any issues with regards to local communities and employees, while simultaneously achieving economies of scale.

We examine the case of P.H.C. and the KKM2 Group, which, after one year of operation in the D.R. Congo, have succeeded in providing a sense of relief to workers and local communities by focusing their attention on social welfare; by investing in school, health and road infrastructure, workers' housing, social clauses, relationships between the company and local communities, community support through the creation of OPAs, positive personnel recruitment with a high rate of local labor, good personnel remuneration, as well as quality health care. This is the panacea strategy for the success of any agribusiness.
