But it isn’t just Chinese consumption of these commodities that is helping fuel forest destruction. Global Witness new analysis sheds a spotlight on the often-overlooked role of Chinese banks as some of the biggest global financiers of deforestation.

COFCO goes global to grow grain security

COFCO Corp, China biggest agricultural products supplier by revenue, plans by 2020 to see 60 percent of its revenue contributed by overseas markets and control up to 50 million metric tons of foreign grain resources.

The prime target markets for China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corp are the South and North Americas, and areas along the Black Sea in Europe.
