The emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is expected to discuss partnership projects for developing agriculture in Africa with Brazil's vice president Michel Temer, while on visit to the Brazilian captial next week.
External Relations minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado and Defence minister Celso Amorim.

According to the ministry, two strategic partnerships between Brazil and the Emirates, currently being negotiated, should be signed at Maktoum’s meetings. He will arrive in Brazil after visiting Mexico. Following Brasília, he should travel to Santiago, Chile, and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Maktoum and Temer may also discuss partnership projects for developing agriculture in Africa, increasing the presence of Brazilian companies in the Emirate and investment from the Arab country in Brazilian infrastructure project.

Maktoum will travel to Brazil alongside officials and businessmen from Dubai and the Emirates. Brazilian industry delegates will also attend.

Maktoum’s delegation members will include the president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, chairman and CEO of the Emirates Airline Group, Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Emirati minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Foreign Trade undersecretary to the Emirati Ministry of Economy, Abdulla Ahmad Al Saleh.

Brazil and Emirates

Although this is Maktoum’s first trip to Brazil, Brazilian heads of state have travelled to the Emirates. Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2010) went to the country in 2003 alongside businessmen. In November last year, Temer went to Abu Dhabi, the capital, where he paid a visit to the construction site of a Brasil Foods plant, the holding company that controls the Sadia and Perdigão brands. He also went to Dubai. On that occasion, the Brazilian vice president invited the emir to visit Brazil.

In quarter one this year, Brazil exported the equivalent of US$ 498.19 million to the Emirates, down 20.18% from US$ 624.11 million in Q1 2013. The main products shipped from Brazil were foodstuffs. The figures were supplied by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.

Imports also declined: by March, Brazil had imported US$ 78.6 million worth of goods from the UAE, down 10.1% from US$ 87.4 million from January to March 2013. Mineral fuels were the main import item.
